In the picturesque heart of Devon, I was approached by an individual with a profoundly personal project. His mother, a talented fashion designer and avid collector, had recently passed away, leaving behind a treasure trove of memories within her home. The challenge was to document the entire contents of the house, capturing each room as it was, and then individually photographing various items, including a significant collection of Venetian glass. The goal? To compile these images into a beautiful, heartfelt book of memories, preserving his mother's legacy for generations to come.
Navigating Challenges: Space, Sensitivity, and Sympathy
The house was a testament to a life well-lived, filled with countless artefacts and memories. However, the challenge lay in the limited space. Every room was packed with items, leaving very little room to manoeuvre. In this delicate environment, I approached the task with care, understanding the sentimental value attached to each piece.
Creative Solutions: Capturing Beauty in Limited Space
To create individual images of the precious Venetian glass collection and other items, I utilised a small portable light tent. Despite the cramped quarters, patience and creativity prevailed. We slowly carved out space, both in the garden and indoors, to accommodate the setup. The result was a series of images that surpassed the client's expectations. Several hundred meticulously captured photographs now stood as a testament to his mother's exquisite taste and the life she had lovingly curated.
